First steps of Periodontics

In order to judge the amount and quality of bone material covering the main part of the tooth, a Periodontal Screening Index is determined. Each tooth is checked circularly with a medical probe , giving information about how deep the gingival pockets are and how likely the gums are to bleed. Tranferring this data to a table we can determine the stage of periodontal disease we are dealing with.

The bacterial infection is of priority. This is why the therapy starts with indications on how to proceed at home with tooth maintenance routines, complemented by a professional cleaning session in our practice. Gingival pockets and root surfaces are polished gently and under the effect of local anaesthesia.
We remove calculus and plaques effectively. Healthy tooth substance is not damaged as the mechanical part of the cleaning pricess is reduced to a minimum.

Objective of this therapy is to create a healthy bacterial flora.
